Apples' Palette ... Uncommon Objects... Collecting People...
An object is preserved because at a particular moment someone judges it "best" for an emotional or aesthetic reason. It can survive for one, two, or multiple generations. The object becomes a link to the past and a bridge to the future.
But what if we think about objects collecting people, rather than people preserving objects?
A small French candlestand of cherrywood stands next to our piano. From the Sarthe River Valley in Brittany, it dates from the last decade of the 18th century. For over two hundred years it has collected people - and their stories. For generations it has witnessed the dramas of its families: the loves and losses, the successes and failures, the joys and disappointments. If only we could see an album of the people it has collected!
But who will be next?
We have spent a lifetime immersing ourselves in the cross-cultural threads of country and folk. The objects we offer have been an important part of that journey.
Now they will have a new opportunity to collect "their" people.
We accept personal checks and Paypal. We prefer to ship USPS Priority Mail with all items insured. The cost of shipping and insurance will be added to the cost of the item.
We try to describe all objects in detail, based on our respect for the object and its history and our experience and research. We welcome questions and requests for additional pictures. Our antiques are sold "in good faith." We look forward to sharing with you.

Antique Irish American Folk Art Calligraphy of the Kelly Harrold Family Tree
This unique and wonderful family tree of the Kelly and Harrold families was created by a skilled artist. At first glance, each name appears to be a calling card. Closer examination shows that what looks like a series of engravings in different typefaces has been completely executed by hand. It was designed for Hugh Kelly and presented to his wife with “God as Our Protector.” A green “Irish” flag on the Kelly side depicts a Celtic harp. An American flag represents the Harrold side. The paper is watermarked “Bristol L M” and a hand drawn date of 1870 represents the marriage of Hugh and Bridget. In an old frame, the calligraphy is in very good condition, with some darkening on the upper side borders. American folk art at a sophisticated level! $295

Antique American Pantry Box
We think this is an exceptional pantry box with it's impressed mark "E. Murdock Jr. Boston" on the lid, its fine patina, and pegged construction. The Elisha Murdock Company manufactured woodwares, and its Boston plant operated until 1882. The box carries its orginal color and must have started as a nineteenth century white but has mellowed out to a cast of gray, cream, or palest green, depending on the light. Some collectors refer to this color as "oyster." It measures 9 7/8" across and 5" high. Ask for close-ups of the mark on this special piece of American woodenware! $310
